OK so in general we are looking at another sand based scenery like Riverside and Bridgehampton (early years).

Honestly...I am so appreciative of the education I'm getting on racing history because you guys keeping bringing life to these long gone race tracks. For me, that is just so awesome. Kunos can focus on bringing us the modern circuits we all love -- going back in time to drive Riverside has been great. The layout of this Augusta Int. Raceway looks like it would be a blast...especially in some of those older cars Kunos has given us and then things like AC Legends & other quality mods. As fans and "historians" we are fortunate with the former Augusta circuit as 90% of the track is still in place and is being developed into a public park. What is left of the actual track will be developed into a walking trail. Most of the dedicated racing circuits are gone and we are fortunate to have folks like the members here who can bring the tracks "back" so they can be enjoyed. I have not done the actual acreage of the track but it has to be pretty close to Daytona International Speedway and that is impressive.

A bit off topic, but important, is the fact that Augusta has a non-profit group that is working with the Parks Department to document the history of this facility and we have actually been "given" 10,000 square feet of the property just a few feet from the former pit lane to physically document what took place at the facility. In the new book "Lost Road Circuits" a great comment was given to this effort and I would encourage all to visit the memorial if you are near the Augusta, Georgia area. This contained area within the park is known as the Rex White Motorsports Memorial Plaza.

Gonna be exciting when this project is completed and folks can once again drive and enjoy this track. Thanks to all involved.

Did a quick measurement of the Daytona International Speedway and the former Augusta International Raceway on Google Earth at their furthest points of the tracks and came up with:

Daytona 5400 feet x 2700 feet
Augusta 5500 feet x 4365 feet

This would indicate that Daytona would "theoretically" fit inside of the Augusta circuit. Pretty impressive.

Another minor detail as this track is "rebuilt". The infield lakes were spring fed and actually drained under the track to nearby Spirit Creek. Had the multi-track facility survived the lakes were to be connected and used for hydro-plane racing. This was the original concept but it began to be modified almost immediately after initial grading began. If the 2 mile tri-oval had been built the facility could still be active today. The original road circuit was planned for 5 miles instead of the current 3 mile layout.

Just curious. Has there been any progress on this track?

Unfortunately no as life has gotten a bit in the way and current projects are taking a bit longer than expected. It's still on the list though.

Hi folks, I may or may not have exchanged messages with some individuals in this thread aside from Lilski, but I spent the last ~month or so putting together a little mini documentary/exploration video on Augusta International. I had a fellow fly a drone around the site as well as walked the track myself. Here's the finished product. I was in touch with a couple of folks from AIRPS to validate some facts/stories (that I also see in this thread). Really interesting track, and I totally recorded the part about wanting it in a video game before I found this, so was really entertained to stumble across this forum!

Very cool. Makes me want to do some more work to it. Maybe after the Watkins update next week I'll revisit Augusta and finalize the layout and get some landscaping in there. I can see this would be a good place to use @Stereo custom water shader. Really there was never much there so should be a pretty quick project.

I just saw Richards video on YouTube and had to look up this track. It looks like it would be great fun to drive. I hope Lilski is still going to work on this. Maybe port it over to rFactor2 when it's done.

Good work so far everyone!!

@LilSki @HistoricMustang

Is Augusta International Raceway a dead project now?

Not dead. Just life is taking priority over track work this summer.

My plan is for this and greenwood to see some progress if not competed in 2020.

Dale Earnhardt Jr's media production company "Dirty Mo" just spent three days documenting and filming at the former Augusta International Raceway 3.0 mile road circuit. Should be aired by summer 2020. Is anyone making progress...……..?
