GESHWILER During a half-century at Georgia State University, Bill Suttles accomplished a lot. He earned an undergraduate degree. He taught English and speech. He was dean of students.

He led committees to improve the quality of GSU education and student life. As provost, he was its chief operating officer for 19 years. In 1989, he was acting president. And on the seventh day, he pastored. Even with all his GSU responsibilities, he remained a part-time Baptist minister for more than 50 years.

That meant conducting twice-a- month Sunday services at churches nearly an drive from Atlanta in Haralson and Luthersville and tending to his needs weddings, funerals, counseling all for no fee. Bill accepted gifts from people at church at Christmas and on his birthday, but no said his wife, Lanette Suttles of East Point. father, the Rev. JONESBORO Jean Galvond, 78, community activist By DERRICK HENRY At 16, Jean Galvond took to her bed with rheumatic fever. Her doctors gave her six months to live. Four years later, she rose from the bed and continued with her life. The experience instilled the Indiana native with gratitude and compassion. She spent much of her adult life serving the less fortunate in Clayton and Henry counties.

On Mondays, be at Samaritans Together, assisting people with their utility bills. Fridays, deliver food for Meals on Wheels. Other days, relieve house parents at Christian City by taking care of resident children. She was the longtime treasurer at First Christian Church of Jonesboro. After Sunday services, Mrs.

CRUMLEY Josephine McDougall Crumley, a native Atlantan passed away April 1, 2003. She was born March 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Calhoun McDougall of Atlanta. She attended E.

Rivers Elementary School, North Fulton and Gunston Hall in Washington, DC and graduated from Mrs. Finishing School in New York City. Her husband, Robert Morris Crumley and daughter, Jody Crumley preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs.

Crumley were married for 49 years. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Sally and John Lanigan, grandchildren, John and Mary Stoney Lanigan, and her brother, Calhoun McDougall. She was a member of The Cathedral of St. Philip where she was a Daughter of the King, and a member of St. Church Chapter for many years.

Berry. Hugh is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy Skipper Berry, sons, Albert and Clark Berry and daughter, Ashley Berry, all of Marietta, who claim was the greatest father to ever brother and sister in- law, Ronald and Caroline Berry of Savannah, Georgia. Growing up in Savannah, Hugh spent his early years at Savannah Country Day School and was a graduate of Woodbury Forest in Virginia and the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Hugh was very involved with the sailing community in Savannah. Many weekends were spent sailing in Regattas at home and throughout the southeast.

Hugh and his family later moved to Marietta, Georgia where he was employed by Great Dane Trailers. In 1998, Hugh started his own company in Chattanooga, TN, Wabash Trailer Sales. He became devoted to the game of golf and also coached his three soccer teams, one of which won a state title. Hugh will be missed by many friends in Chattanooga, Marietta and Savannah. A memorial service is planned in Savannah on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m.
