What Is a 7 and 7 Drink?

While the 7 and 7 has been around since the late 1800s, it peaked in popularity in the 1970s.

People enjoyed the simple taste and that they would get the same drink no matter where they ordered it.

Plus, it was a budget-friendly spirit even dive bars could afford.

Like a Jack and co*ke, the name tells you everything you need to know about this highball classic.

It pairs Seagram’s 7 Crown Whiskey with a splash of 7-Up to make a light, refreshing drink you can enjoy all year.

The smooth, vanilla notes of the blended whiskey pair perfectly with the sweetness in the soda.

Of course, you can use other brands. But then, is it still a 7 & 7?

What is Seagram’s 7?

Seagram’s Seven Crown Whiskey earned its name from the seven types of whiskey blended into their signature concoction.

Unlike dark whiskies, Seagram’s 7 is surprisingly light and refreshing. It carries subtle notes of vanilla and caramel notes with a kiss of fruitiness.

It’s an 80-proof whiskey that’s perfect for anyone on a budget. Plus, you can find it just about anywhere.

If a store sells whiskey, they’ll have Seagram’s 7.

While it may not be ideal for drinking straight-up, it’s an affordable option for whiskey co*cktails.

  • Seagram’s 7 Crown Whiskey. There’s no replacement for the flavor of Seagram’s 7. Don’t worry, it’s widely available at most liquor stores, and it’s super affordable.
  • 7-Up. It is called a Seven and Seven, after all. But you can use whatever lemon-lime soda you prefer (like Sprite).
  • Ice. As with all bubbly soda co*cktails, a Seven and Seven is best served over ice.
  • Lemon wedge. If you want to get fancy, you can add a lemon wedge for garnish.

How to Make a 7 and 7 co*cktail

Can This Be Made in a Pitcher?

The recipe below makes one serving. But yes, this is a terrific option when making pitcher co*cktails.

Fill a pitcher with ice, and multiply the whiskey pours by the number of guests.

Then, top it all off with 7-Up.

Be sure to serve it with highball glasses and plenty of ice.

Just don’t let it sit for too long. The bubbles will fade the longer you leave it.

The Seven and Seven is the effervescent cousin of the Jack and co*ke – and just as easy! Just mix Crown Whiskey with citrus soda, and you’re all set.

Ingredients

  • Ice

  • 2 ounces Seagram’s 7 Crown Whiskey

  • 4 -6 ounces 7 Up

  • lemon wedge, for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice. Pour the whiskey and fill the rest of the glass with 7-Up.
  • Garnish with a lemon wedge.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Stick to Seagram’s. While Seagram’s isn’t a top-tier whiskey, its smoothness for its price range makes it an excellent choice for this co*cktail.
  • Adjust the strength. You can easily adjust the strength of this co*cktail by adding a little more 7-Up.
