Double-clicking the search box will visually filter any inventories, including all chests for items that match the search field's criteria. Items that do not match the current search will be grayed out. Double-clicking again will turn off the search mode. There are 2 arrow buttons above the item list.
In the search tab found above the Creative inventory, players can search for the items they want to use. If the "Operator Items Tab" option in the controls menu is enabled, the creative inventory will show operator items (like command blocks and barriers) in a separate tab.
Afterward, join with your Minecraft account and open the in-game chat. Enter the /gamerule keepInventory true command to enable this feature. Upon doing this, you'll see a return message confirming it worked.
Modes. NEI has three main modes; Recipe, Utility and Cheat. The current mode can be toggled by clicking on the NEI Config button in the bottom left corner, toggling the Global/World button to World, then Inventory > Recipe/Utility/Cheat Mode.
The mouse wheel (if you have one) can be used to select items in your Toolbar. If your inventory window is open, pressing 1–9 will add whatever item your mouse is over to that slot on your Toolbar.
Inventory sorting - Sorts your inventory by using the middle click or by pressing R (by default) at any time. The shortcut can be changed in the Controls menu in your options.
