Direct link to ayvg0908's post “When we say that photosyn...” When we say that photosynthesis drives the movement of matter, we can interpret that this process is the key factor for the matter/atoms to move between organisms. For instance: If it wasn't for photosynthesis, plants wouldn't have sugar to grow, then herbivores wouldn't have anything to eat, and so it goes on to the food chain. In short words, it's thanks to photosynthesis that matter and energy in the form of sugars or other compounds can "travel" between various organisms (animals, plants, algae, fungus, etc) throughout the environment. E.g., humans, cows, lions, etc. Autotrophs are organisms that make their own food from natural processes like photosynthesis.
